Lucinda

Act One Scene One

Int. A very well known actor is standing in his living room, watching the news. It's a news report of a girl that has gone missing.

Trey

I know that girl! Her name is Lucinda!

News anchor:

Lucinda Rayes has been missing since last Thursday sources say.

Raeleigh

When is the last time you had contact with her?

Trey

Last Thursday. I signed an autograph for her. I specifically remember that.

Raeleigh

Okay.  Did she seem anxious or anything?

Trey

No, she was very calm.

Raeleigh

Is this girl an actress as well?

Trey

No, she's a retired fantasy author.

Raeleigh

Then I should be able to find some info on her.

Trey

Why are you helping me?

Raeleigh

Because you're my brother. Why are you intent on helping a complete stranger?

Trey

I don't know. There was just something about her the day I met her.  There was something in her eyes. I don't know if was honesty, sadness or just tiredness. I was intrigued by her the first moment I met her.

Raeleigh

Then I'm going to help you.

Libby

Are you two going on about that missing girl? Look, if you want my advice, I say drop it. Someone will eventually find her.

Trey's Flashback to meeting Lucinda

Int. At a meet and greet

Trey

(Looks up stunned)

I'm sorry. I can't stop staring. I'm just so- starstruck...

Lucinda

(Laughs)

If anyone should be starstruck, it should be me.  You're my favorite Broadway actor.

Trey

And you, Ma'am, are my favorite author.

Tyler

Lucy, come on. We're going to be late! We don't have time for you to stand here and flirt!

Lucinda

Give me a moment, Tyler! Sheesh. I'm sorry, but I have to go. Until we meet again.

Trey's phone goes off, altering him of an email.

Subject: Read alone or else!

Trey

(Reading the email)

She was never yours in the first place. Even so,you're still never going to get her back! I know where Lucinda is, but I'll never tell where she is.  Everything she has coming to her, she deserves. I give you 24 hours to try and find her and if you can't, she's mine for good!

E mailer

I've brought you some lunch.

Lucinda

Let me go! Okay fine. Don't let me go, but at least untie me.

E mailer

Now, where would the fun be in that? I need to make sure that you're  not going to make an escape.

Lucinda

I'm not. You can trust me! Who are you and why did you take me?

E mailer

Just wait a bit longer.

Without answering her questions, the e mailer leaves the room, locking it.

Act One Scene Two

Libby is standing at the stove, making breakfast

Libby

Here, Take this food to Trey.  I'm still making yours because of course, you need special treatment. (Rolls eyes)

Raeleigh

I can't help my allergies, Mother.

Libby

I wouldn't be surprised if you were doing this on purpose...

Raeleigh

Oh, yeah because these are the lengths I'd resort to get to my mommy to pay attention. Oh, please. We all know you don't care about me and the feeling's mutual. Trey is your pick, and he's always been your favorite. I've accepted that a long time ago.

Libby

Well, it's about time! Now go take your brother his food!

Trey

I heard that conversation.

Raeleigh

I'm okay. I've learned to accept Mother's cruelty a long time ago.

Trey

I got an email. I think it's from the kidnapper.

Raeleigh

What?

(Trey hands Raeleigh his phone)

Raeleigh

That's so creepy.

Trey

I don't have any way to track this person. I have to get to work in a few moments!

RaeLeigh

I know! The IP address! We can track that! I'll work on that while you're rehearsing!

(Lucinda is seen trying to escape her ties)

Lucinda

There's got to be a way I can get out of here. I'm not going to let him hold me here.

Act One Scene Three

America

You're late for work, as usual, Trey. What's going on?

Trey

I'm sorry.  My sister and I got caught up in a mystery.

America

The Lucinda one?

Trey

Do you know about that?

America

Personally, if you ask me, I think she's perfectly fine.

Trey

You can't possibly believe that!

America

You can't possibly believe that some twisted person grabbed her off the street!

Trey

And why not? It happens, Meri!

Director

Can you two continue this moment later? We have a play to rehearse for right now!

E mailer enters Lucinda the room

E mailer

Scoping out the place for an escape?

Lucinda

I-I didn't think-

Email

That I would be back so soon? Sit.

Lucinda

Why? What are you going to do?

Emailer

Just sit.  (Cuts off her ties)  I think I can trust you not  to run away. However, there is one catch.  This door always remains locked. There's a bathroom in the corner over there for you to shower.  I will feed you every day. Breakfast lunch and dinner. I still don't trust you completely.  You're  here for one reason and one reason only as bait to get even with your little boyfriend.

Act Two Scene One

Trey checks his email to find yet another message

Trey

Hurry up. Time is running out. You now only have eight hours! I can almost guarantee that you will never find Lucinda.

Raeleigh

Another email? I have some good and bad news. The good news? I tracked the IP address that the emails are coming from. The bad news is I tracked down America's  IP address.

Trey

What? No! I refuse to believe that America did any of this. There's got to be another explanation.

Raeleigh

America may not be the mastermind behind this, but that doesn't mean she isn't working with them. Trey, think very carefully. Did she seem off to you at all last night?

Trey

That's just it. She seemed like her perfectly normal self.

Libby interrupts them

Libby

Ugh! I can't believe you two are still going on with this. I thought we agreed you'd drop this ridiculous investigation!

Trey

We never agreed to such a thing. That was you trying to control us. Why don't you want us to investigate? That makes no sense. Unless...

Libby

Unless what?

Trey

Unless you're the one doing all of this.

Libby

Explain to me how if I'm the one doing this, you tracked this back to America's computer.

Raeleigh

Maybe you're the one pulling her strings.

Libby

Oh, please. I'm not that cruel. For both of your sake, I hope you let this go. If you keep digging into this, something very bad might happen. I say this as a  concerned mother.  (Walks away)

Int. At the theater, Trey decides he needs to confront America.

America

You're early for once.

Trey

I know what you did, America, and you're not going to get away with it.

America

What-what are you talking about?

(Trey holds up the email)

(America snatches it away from him)

America

I didn't send this to you! I didn't even know your email address, Trey.

Trey

Then how do you explain us tracking your IP Address back to this?

America

I don't know! Wait... My dad... He was using my computer the other day and when I caught him, he made some weird excuses as to why. You don't think-

Trey

Meri, I know you want to believe the best about your father, but right now.. if it's him.. he kidnapped a young woman and we have to rescue her.  He could be a dangerous man.

Director

Trey? What's going on?

America

You tell us, Daddy! Explain this!  (Shoves the email in his face)

(Director smirks)

I see you found my dirty little secret

Body Guard

Eat up. Boss has decided to let you out of your cage for a "family" meeting.

Lucinda

That man is delusional if he ever thinks I'm going to call him family.

Body Guard

You may have no choice in the matter.  Now eat up.  You have a big day ahead of you,

(Bodyguard leaves the room, smirking)'

Act Two Scene Two

Body Guard

I think our guest is ready for her initiation, Boss.

Emailer

In due time, Boy. In due time.  For now, we have people on our trail and we need to hide her.

Body Guard

I have just the perfect place to hide her.  (Grabs Lucinda's arm,

(Lucinda yanks out of his grasp and makes a run for it)

Emailer

Catch her!

(Lucinda swirls and elbows the bodyguard she manages to escape, but not for very long)

Body Guard

I would like to  say nice try, but sadly that attempt at escaping was pathetic.  (Takes Lucinda outside)

Lucinda

What are we doing out here?

Body Guard

Digging your grave!

(Body Guard digs and then throws Lucinda inside)

Lucinda screams for the bodyguard to stop playing around

Lucinda

Okay... Think Lucy, you're smart. You can get out of here on your own.  You are not a damsel in distress.

(America and Trey are locked in the theater)

America

There's an escape! (Points to the ceiling)

Trey

Is that safe?

America

Do you want to get out of here or not? Because that is the only way to do it, it seems.

E mailer

It looks like I now have all of you right where I want you. None of you will escape me. The great Elliot!

(Body Guard toasts Elliot)

Act Two Scene Three

Raeleigh

I hacked into Trey's email account.  Don't look at me like that, Mother.  Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Libby

Well, it's about time you start listening to me. I've taught you well.

Raeleigh

Trey's in trouble. He called me. He said my name and then hung up.

Libby

How do you know this wasn't a prank call?

Raeleigh

Because unlike you, Mother, Trey doesn't play these kind of games.

Libby

Let's go! We're going to save your brother!

Lucinda

Look, I can't make an escape for it even if I want to, but you can.

Body Guard

Sorry, but Boss ordered me to keep an eye on you, and I don't get paid until I do my job,

Lucinda

How much is he paying you? Tell me and I'll double it.

Body Guard

You people never learn about bargaining, do you?

Lucinda

People?  He's done this to others?. Look, Mr. You've got to be exhausted working day in and out for someone this cruel, and I bet you he makes promises he never keeps.  How am I doing so far?  The fact you're not responding to me tells me I'm right.

Body Guard

You're wrong as usual. Now if you'll excuse me, I have other house guests to check on.

Lucinda

Don't you mean prisoners?

(Body Guard looks back for one lingering moment and then walks away)

Lucinda

There has to be an escape exit. How else would he be able to get in and out of here?  (Rocks come crashing down. Lucinda screams and runs for cover)

Act Three Scene One

Lucinda looks around and finds a shovel.

Lucinda picks the shovel up and starts tearing through the ditch.   When she's finally made a hole, she peeks through it.

Lucinda

There it is. My escape. The only thing is. He could have his bodyguard watching my every move.   I can't think about that. I have to escape!

Body Guard

Um, Boss, she's escaping!

Elliot

Well, what are you waiting for? Go after her? I have my own problems to deal with!  Go! Now before she gets very far. I'll be back. I have to go check on our other prisoners.

(A door slams behind them)

Elliot

It doesn't look like you two are going anywhere anytime soon.

(Libby and Raeleigh climb up the vent.  Raeleigh punches Elliot)

Trey

Rae! Mom!

(Raeleigh and Libby hug Trey)

(Body Guard catches up to Lucinda and tackles her the ground)

Lucinda kicks him

Body Guard

You're not going to get very far.

Lucinda

Watch me

(Lucinda drags Body Guard to the ditch

Body Guard

No! Please don't. I'll take you up on your offer.

Lucinda

A little late for that now, Director. That's right. I know you're the director  of Trey's play and that your name is Jayce. Now if you'll excuse  me, I have to go rescue my friends from your creepy boss.  (Pushes Jayce in the ditch)

Act Three Scene Two

Lucinda kicks in the theater door

Lucinda

Elliot? We have unfinished business.

Lucinda climbs up the vent to see Elliot has tied everyone up.

Elliot

Well, well. I was wondering how long it would take you to get out of that ditch.  Tell me, Lucinda. How did you do it?

Lucinda

Your idiot bodyguard left a shovel behind.  Now. Here's what we're going to do. You're going to let my friends go.

Elliot

Or else what?

Lucinda

I turn you in for the criminal you are!

Lucinda takes a vase and knocks him out with it. She runs over to rescue her friends.

Lucinda

Are you guys okay?

Trey

You saved us! That was totally bad ass by the way.

Lucinda

The authorities are on their way to pick you and Jayce up.  You almost had me, but you didn't.  Lucinda Rayes is no one's victim.

Libby

Trey, Rae! I'm so sorry.  Can you ever forgive me?

Trey & Raeleigh

It's forgiven,

Raeleigh

America's waiting for you. Trey. Go talk to her.
