Today was Martina's nineteenth birthday, and in few short weeks, she would move out. The twins and Candace have already gotten married, moved out, and have families of their own. Kyla was going to make Martina's favorite; marble cake.
"Smells delicious," Kyla's husband, Fred, complimented. Kyla grinned and returned his sweet kiss. "Martina will be happy to eat it."
"I hope so, but she's been acting strange lately," Kyla said with concern in her voice.
“Yeah, I've noticed.”
A few hours later, Martina came home, and they sang happy birthday to her. She opened her present. They consisted of a few notebooks, pendants, and art supplies. "Thank you, everyone," Martina smiled, but it was a sad smile.
“Martina, is everything alright?” Kyla decided to bite the bullet and ask.
“I'm fine, Mom. Really. I am.”
"If you say, but you know, you can come to talk to me. Right?"
"I do. Thanks," Martina hugged Kyla and asked to be excused. Fred put comforting hands on his wife's shoulders and kissed the top of her head as if to reassure her.
