"Tulip, I think you should just get the authorities invoked here. I say this out of concern for your well being and safety."
"And tell them what? That my abusive ex-girlfriend is abusing me? As much as I want to, I honestly fear they won't believe me."
"Okay. Then we'll have to document the stuff your ex did. That way we have evidence, and I'll help you document it."
“You'd do that for me?”
"Of course I would. Let's start with the voicemail, okay? Do you save her texts that she sends you? It may help."
I hand her my phone to look through. Because at this point, I already feel that I can trust Libby. I still don't know her well enough to trust her completely, so I know I still can't let my guard down just in case even though I know she's sweet, kind and caring.
"Perfect. We'll gather everything we can and then go to the authorities."
“I don't know about this.”
"Trust me, you're doing the right thing."
“I think that's all the evidence.”
"Hey? Again, I think you're doing the right thing, but I won't force you to do this. Just keep the evidence filed somewhere safe."
"No, I need to fight back against her."
We take the evidence to the authorities. After we're done dealing with that, Libby takes my hand as we're sitting in the car. "What do you think? Should we talk about a date?"
“How about air hockey?”
The next day Libby shows up to my house with flowers and chocolate. She's wearing a plain blue dress while I'm wearing a pink flowery dress.
After playing a few rounds of air hockey, we find a place to dine. The time goes by quickly and before we know it's time to go home.
“I had a lovely time.”
“So did I.”
Libby walks me to my door and leans close to me. "May I?" I nod my approval as we kiss. I wave to her as she heads to her car, wishing she could stay.
