I stood before Mr. Figs. "You foolish girl!" He growled at me. He came closer to me, but I jumped back.
He laughed. "Why, you are afraid of me? Didn't your mother ever teach to never show fear to someone in power? No. I'm not surprised. She was just as much of a coward as you are."
“Don't talk about my mother that way!” I shouted.
"Shh," Mr. Figs warned me, putting his fingers to his lips. He wanted me to be quiet? Oh no, that wasn't going to work. I suddenly had an idea and screamed louder.
At the sounds of my screams, Dan came running. He barged in. “What's going on here?” Dan asked.
"Do you want to tell him, or shall I?"
“I haven't the faintest idea of what you're talking about,” Mr. Figs feigned ignorance.
“Liar!” I shouted.
"Will someone please explain to me what's going on?" Dan shouted. I turned around to face Dan, forgetting for a moment that Mr. Figs was in the room with us.
"Mr. Figs has here has been trying to intimidate me into doing what he wants. He threatened me. He said that he made and that he could unmake me."
"What? Is that true, Mr. Figs?"
“Of course not! She has no proof of that!”
"Oh, but I do," I said taking the mini recorder of my pocket. His voice came over the speakerphone, threatening me. "Got you right where I want you."
"I don't understand."
"You see, I knew you were a creep. I knew it from the very first moment I met you, but I knew I would need proof so I keep this handy recorder. Now, what shall I do with this information?"
“Please. I'll do anything.”
"Anything? How about you step down from the director?" Dan spoke up. I grinned up at my friend. It was an excellent idea. Mr. Figgs ran after that.
"That was brilliant, Sunflower. Congratulations, Director!" He pulled me into a hug. I was reluctant to pull away, but I knew we had a play to attend.
