Full Circle Magic

“Dad?”

"Yes, son?" Kent helped his middle son with his tie.

He saw so much of Melody in their boys.  She was one proud mama. She'd be proud today.

“I was wondering what made you want to be a headmaster?”

Kent smiled.

"I always wanted to be a jewelry designer.  I never wanted to be the headmaster at all, but then your mother came along and made me rethink things."

It was Tiger's millionth time hearing the story, but he didn't mind it. He loved to hear the story of how his mother and father fell in love.

"Come on. Let's go watch your brother win that award."

Kent pulled out chairs for sons Tiger and Benson as they waited for the ceremony to begin.

Backstage, Collin was pacing back and forth.  He was a nervous wreck.  He ran his fingers through He looked up as his advisor stepped in front of him.

"Miss Perkins, I didn't think you'd make it tonight."

"I apologize for my almost tardiness, sir.  I just wanted to wish you luck tonight."

“Thank you, Miss Perkins.”

As she was walking away, Collin called back to her.   “Miss Perkins?

“If you're sure.”

“I am.”

Flower Perkins smiled and found her way to the audience.

Tiger tapped Flower on the shoulder.   "He wasn't giving you a hard time, right?"

'Nah. I just wanted to wish him luck tonight.”

The curtains opened and out stepped the announcer.   "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us tonight. "Let's start the ceremony."

There was a long silence before we spoke again.   "Well, this is rather unusual. It seems we have a bit of a change.  It appears the award goes to Headmistress Valerie McKinley.  Congrats, Val!"

Val stepped on stage just as Collin spilled a glass of water on her dress.

Everyone gasped and Flower ran up the stage to escort Collin back to the audience.

Back at home, Collin faced Kent's wrath.  "I'm very disappointed in you tonight, son. I've never taught you to be a sore loser,"  Kent scolded his son.

“Dad-”

“I don't want to hear your excuses. This is not how your mother and I raised you!”

"Dad, I'm sorry."

"I'm not the one you need to apologize to.  Your namesake would not approve of this kind of behavior."

After his talk with Collin, Kent decided he needed to visit Melody's graveside.  "Melody, I don't know what to do.  I think Collin is going through something. He needs you. We all need you. More than ever."

Kent felt someone tap his shoulder. After four years, he was looking into the face of Jeanie Powerful...
