“Hey, Cherry? I thought I tracked the address.”
“Then let's go.”
“What? You're allowing me to go with?”
"You're my partner, aren't you? Besides, I'm going to need your help kicking Dayton's butt," Cherry smiled.
"I think that's the house," Lanie pointed out. Cherry ran up the steps and knocked. "I know you're in there, Dayton Pierce. Open this door right now before I kick it in!
When Cherry didn't get a response, she kicked the door open. Dayton had Reese tied up and was holding a weapon to her throat. "Help me... Please."
"Drop the weapon, Mr. Pierce," Lanie ordered.
He turned the weapon on himself. "No! Don't do that. Listen, doing that... You're taking the coward's way out. You can be redeemed."
Dayton laughed. "You think I believe that nonsense? You don't even believe that yourself, do you?
"I- do believe you can be redeemed, Dayton. If you are truly sorry for what you did, you can change. If not, then it might be difficult."
While Cherry was distracted, Lanie handcuffed Dayton and read him his Miranda rights.
Six months later.
“Excuse me? I was just looking for a Cherry Heartwinn?
“Reese? Is that really you?
“It's me. I've taken a change out of Cherry's book and changed my name legally to Reese. I- also wanted to thank her and you both for saving me.
"It's part our of the job description, ma'am."
Cherry came out of her office and smiled. “You're the captain now? Congrats! I can't think of a more deserving person. I just wanted to drop by and give you these cupcakes. I'm leaving town.”
“I think a fresh start would be good for you.”
“Me too. Congrats again and thanks for everything.”
“How sweet. Are we still on for a date tonight?” Cherry asked sitting in Lanie's lap. They shared a passionate kiss.
